Tech Head – October 2022

HTVront Heat Press
Ever wanted to design your own TV shirts? If so, then a machine like this is awesome. It has a large plate that you put a piece of clothing under. Then you select your heat and press time, then hold it down with the required weight by using the helpful handle. It all works really well. The only thing to keep in mind is that you will need to find the images you want, or create a design, and then print them onto vinyl paper first in order to transfer it across to your clothing.

Corsair HS65 headset
If you’re looking for a good gaming headset, the Corsair HS65 is a standout. It offers a great surround sound experience, which is personalised to your ears with the SoundID software. The mic quality is good, and we love that you can mute it just by flicking the boom upwards. It’s got a strong clamp, but thick memory foam on the cups and adjustable headband to make it very comfortable and light. It is wired, but the cable is long and it comes with an adaptor for a headphone jack or USB. It does work on PlayStation and Switch, but is definitely best suited to PC gaming. Sadly, there is no Bluetooth for mobile use.

Canon EOS R7
If you love your photography and want to step up from a mobile phone, the Canon EOS range offers fantastic and fast mirrorless cameras. But they can get expensive! The Canon R7 is one of the cheaper options, but still offers strong features. This includes the ability to use both full frame and APS-C RF lenses. It’s a smaller camera, so easier to hold and move about. But we love the the amazing 15 frames-per-second, excellent auto-focus, 32MP lens and 4K video features, which are awesome for sport or animal shots. We just wish it was better in low light.

G-Tek Cyborg 1000 keyboard
If you game a lot on PC, but don’t have too much desk space, this new keyboard could be your saviour. It’s got a very compact design, meaning it doesn’t take up much space. Yet it’s built with a steel plate in the back, and with a leather-like wrist rest, so it still feels strong and durable. We like how you can use it in wired, wireless or Bluetooth modes, so it can work with many devices. And the 2mm activation distance gives you a really quick reaction time when gaming. It even has an awesome LED light array.

Pixel 6a
The Google Pixel 6 is a great android smartphone, but expensive. The Pixel 6a gives you a lot of the same features, at a much cheaper price. It’s a bit smaller, and the screen – while still impressive as an HD OLED – has a lower refresh rate and more casing around it. It has the same Tensor chip as the premium Pixel 6 though, but less RAM. It’s got great photo features, is good for games and watching movies, and does general activities really well. We wish the battery life was longer, but at this price, the Pixel 6a is still a bang for buck option.

Netgear Nighthawk RAXE500 Router
If you’re having trouble with WiFi speeds in your home, a new router could help. This latest entry from Netgear is the fastest you’ll come across, as it uses the new Wi-Fi 6e standard. Most of the latest laptops, TVs and phones use 6e, but it also works with the Wi-Fi 6 leveraged by Xbox and PlayStation. It will give you good coverage over most family homes given its 30m range, but is defiantly best when you are close. It’s easy to set up with a lot of customisation options, too. The only pain is having to subscribe if you want ongoing security updates.
