Story: After a delay to the original launch date, one of the world’s most popular video games has been transformed into a feature length computer-animated film. In case you couldn’t guess, the storyline for The Super Mario Bros. Movie follows similar themes as the gaming hit of the same name. Mario, a legendary plumber-turned-video game-hero will no doubt hop his way into the hearts of viewers all over the world. In this The Super Mario Bros. Movie release, Mario and his brother, Luigi, travel through an underground labyrinth of tunnels to desperately rescue Princess Peach. With top acting talent, big time producers and the man who created Mario working behind the scenes, we have high expectations for this flick.

This year’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie follows the 1993 failed release of the same name which has been described as “one of the world’s worst video game movies ever.”

As of March, 2022, the Super Mario series had reportedly sold over 396 million copies worldwide with an estimated $22 billion in sales.

The character, Mario, was first developed by graphic artist, Shigeru Miyamoto, in 1977, making his debut in the 1981 video game, Donkey Kong.

Some other actresses considered for the role of Princess Peach included Amanda Seyfried, Emma Stone, Chloë Grace Moretz, Mandy Moore, Amy Adams and Kristen Bell.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie was slated to debut in December, 2022. The date was allegedly pushed back to maximise family audience viewing during Easter holidays.
