The move towards electrification and strict fuel standards have forced car makers to downsize their engines or do away with internal combustion – even Ferrari has an EV now! The days of the V12 engine are definitely numbered – but Zenvo didn’t get the notification!
Based in Denmark, Zenvo may not be as well-known as Ferrari, Lamborghini, or Bugatti, but they’ve been around for 20 years, and can build cars that make Lambos look boring!
Their latest creation is not just a supercar, but a hypercar known as the Aurora. It is powered by a 6.6 litre quad-turbocharged monster V12 called the Mjolner – named after Thor’s hammer!
Just as powerful as Thor’s hammer, the V12 produces 1,250 horsepower while screaming to a 9,800 rpm redline – that alone makes it the most powerful V12 ever fitted to a road car!
But Zenvo wasn’t done there. Three electric motors push the output to a sick 1,850 horsepower, all managed through a hybrid 8-speed paddle-shift gearbox. Zenvo claim it will hit 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds, but it really gets stupid fast when it hits 400 km/h in 17 seconds, with a top speed of 418 kmh!
With such an insane top speed, you will be covering the length of a football field in less than one second, so those brakes have to be bangers! Luckily there are humungous carbon-ceramic brakes in charge of slowing you down!
Designed, engineered, and hand-assembled in Denmark, the carbon monocoque construction keeps weight to 1548 kg – which works out to a power-to-weight ratio of one horsepower per kilogram!
With styling influenced from Danish furniture design, favouring simplicity over chaos, the Aurora will come in two variants. The Tur is the four wheel drive grand touring option, while the rear-wheel-drive Agil trades two of its electric motors for track-day fun!
Pricing starts at AUD $4.3 million before customisation, and with just 50 examples planned, even you scored big in Lotto, you’d be lucky to get one!
The Zenvo Aurora won’t just be preserving one of the world’s greatest engines, it will remind everyone why 12 cylinders became the benchmark for every Ferrari and Lamborghini we all dreamed about!
